Overlooking the shore of Windermere, Low Wood Bay is the calm and serenity that you need in your life. As soon as you enter the reception, a sense of calm comes over you, and the view of the lake you’re greeted with is stunning. Afternoon tea at Low Wood Bay isn’t just your average afternoon tea. This wood-fired afternoon tea is a mix of sweet and savoury and includes some of the most popular dishes in the restaurant.

The best afternoon tea in the Lake District?

This is a bold claim, but as someone who loves an alternative, savoury afternoon tea, this is right up my street. Filled with mini burgers, smoked salmon, chicken, nachos and lots more, plus some incredible sweet treats, afternoon tea at Low Wood Bay is perfect.

Something Savoury

Let’s start with the savoury options first. On the bottom tier, you had your Blue Smoke Sides & Something Savoury, and it gave you a brilliant taster of the full menu available at Low Wood Bay. For our savoury options we had…

BLUE SMOKE SIGNATURE HOT SMOKED SALMON (gf, df)
cured in Goslings rum, chilli and muscovado sugar served on cucumber and topped with mango and chilli salsa

WOOD-FIRED CUMBRIAN LAMB LOLLIPOP (gf, df)
oregano and sea salt

BLUE SMOKE TOASTED SANDWICH
chunky brisket marinated in Makers Mark Kentucky Bourbon and Blue Smoke rub, topped with pickled gherkin served in a toasted brioche bun

CHICKEN FILLET SKEWERS (gf, df)
seasoned with our secret Blue Smoke rub simply grilled over alder wood embers

BLUE SMOKE LOADED NACHO’S (v, gf)
grilled smoked cheddar and jalapeño, topped with guacamole and crème fraiche

BLUE SMOKE SEASONED CHIPS (v, gf, df)

BLUE SMOKE SLAW (v, gf)

Oof, I was blown away by the options available. I’ve never had so many savoury options available, and each one was packed with flavour. It was a great addition to the afternoon tea at Low Wood Bay by having the side options too . My favourite savoury item had to be the BlueSmoke toasted sandwich which just melted in your mouth.

Something Sweet for afternoon tea at Low Wood Bay

Then we moved to the top two tiers of the wood fire afternoon tea, which was where your sweet, and slightly more traditional, afternoon tea options.

Your sweet options for afternoon tea at Low Wood Bay are;

HOMEMADE BLUEBERRY SCONE (v)
Wood-fired strawberry jam and clotted cream

BLUE SMOKE BROWNIE (v, n)

I loved absolutely every single dessert option, but I think the lemon meringue was the stand-out. It’s a brilliant selection of sweets, and what I liked was that they weren’t overly sweet, they were just right!
