Our Complete Guide to the Creative Workshops at Brockhole, Windermere

Brockhole-on-Windermere is the perfect place for an action-packed day by lake Windermere. From treetop treks to brave the cave to boat hire, there are lots of fun activities to do. However, they now have some slower-paced activities in the form of creative workshops at Brockhole, and there are so many different skills to learn!

There are a mix of creative workshops at Brockhole, from full days learning how to make silk flowers to a half-day lino print workshop with crafternoon tea on the side.

These creative workshops are a brilliant way to learn a new skill, have fun with friends without having an adrenaline rush, and allow you to take some time to be creative.

What to expect during the creative workshops at Brockhole

Recently, I headed to Brockhole for one of their full-day creative workshops, making silk flowers with expert milliner, Tracey Wells.

We arrived at The Gaddum restaurant and were greeted with a coffee (or tea!) of choice, and a chance to meet the other students on the day course, along with our lovely teacher for the day, Tracey.

The day was split into two, with a delicious lunch in the middle. During the morning, we learnt more about how to make the silk flowers and started doing a lot of the prep.

The creative workshops at Brockhole are kept to around 6 people, which meant we got some 1:1 tuition throughout, and lots of chances to ask questions!

At 12:30, we broke for lunch, and lunch at The Gaddum is always a treat. Using local produce, and inventive ways to showcase it, the food here is delicious.

The monkfish was perfectly cooked, accompanied with salty bacon and leeks, and the most delicious veg and roast potatoes. Seriously, these potatoes were amazing – fluffy & full of flavour.

The afternoon of the silk flower workshop was all about putting together our flowers – which was a lot harder than it looked! However, with Tracey’s expert help, I managed.

Whilst deep in concentration, an afternoon cream tea was brought up. It was perfect timing because we were at the drying stage of our project!

Why the creative workshops are the perfect day out

Often the lakes are synonymous with walking, adventure, and a lot of energy. However, there’s plenty to do here that doesn’t involve this.

The creative workshops at Brockhole allow you to have expert tuition, learn new skills, and have a lot of fun. If you’re looking for an alternative day out, this is the one to go for.

Something I especially loved was the level of tuition. Tracey is an expert milliner, and it was fascinating to hear more about her trade, and truly understand the time and effort that goes into making the hats, and flowers that go on!

Included in the full-day creative workshops are;

  • tea & coffee
  • tuition for the full day
  • lunch & cream tea
  • parking

Some of the classes also have an extra charge for materials, but this is dependent on the class. To find out more about the creative workshops, and to book on, click here.

Overall, the day at Brockhole was brilliant, and it was such a lovely thing to do on the shores of Windermere. If you’re looking for more days out ideas, click here to read more day trip reviews.
