6 hidden places to get good coffee in The Lake District

I am one of those people who can’t function without their coffee and spoiler alert, I have decaf, It makes no sense. But I love coffee, and a perk of having decaf is I can have it all day. It also means it’s a bit harder to find good coffee, which is why I wanted to share with you some hidden spots to get your caffeine (or decaffeine) fix whilst you’re in the Lake District.

The Lake District is lucky to have quite a few of it’s own roast houses, which do excellent decaf and caffeinated roasts! Rinaldo’s Coffee, Farrer’s tea & coffee and Penningtons are all based in Kendal, and are all bloody gorgeous.

Whilst I could give you a rundown of some of the more obvious places to get your coffee fix, I thought it would be a lot more fun to share with you some of the more hidden gems & local’s favourites to get your coffee whilst you’re in the lakes.

Casbah Coffee Van, Penrith Station

I have to start with Casbah coffee because Mike, the owner, has such a passion for coffee, and you can really taste it. You can find Annabelle, the coffee van, outside Penrith station Mon-Sat from around 6am-1pm and no matter what the weather, the silky smooth coffee will bring a smile to your face.

Rinaldo’s Coffee, Kendal

Not only does Rinaldo’s roast coffee, you can also sit in and have a coffee whilst you buy your coffee. You can find their base at Plumgarth’s, which is a little independednt food and drink heaven. Whether you’re looking for fresh bread, fresh cakes or fresh coffee, you can get high quality and delicious stuff here. Rinaldo’s coffee is one of my favourites (you can also find it at Casbah coffee!) as it’s strong, full of flavour and the best decaf!

Neaum, Newbiggin

Neaum is a new find for me, and hidden in Newbiggin – a small village between Penrith and Keswick. It’s currently a pop-up, from Friday to Sunday (but rumour has it, it’s going to be more permenant in the next few weeks!). Here you can get freshly baked goods and delicious coffee.

Merinda’s, Keswick

Merinda’s is a cafe/restaurant in the centre of Keswick, but their coffee (and mint tea!) is gorgeous. With a really relaxing atmosphere, delicious food and scones, and rich and creamy coffee!

About Time, Kendal

About Time Espresso bar is down a little ginnel called The New Shambles, in the centre of Kendal. This is a really cute coffee bar, with inside and outside seating, and hot and strong coffee! Tucked away in the side street, you’ll feel all cosy and relaxed here.

Homeground Coffee + Kitchen, Windermere

Homeground isn’t necessarily a hidden gem, but it’s a gem none the less! The coffee here is beautiful, as are the brunches and brownies! It’s cute, compact and has a real vibe about the place. The queues are 100% worth it, because everything here is top quality!
