Where to stay in Tobermory
Tobermory has some brilliant places to stay, from self-catering cottages to dog-friendly hotels.
If you’re looking for self-catering cottages, the best place to look is Island Holiday Cottages. Whilst not the best website, they host the majority of self-catering accommodations and have excellent customer service as well. It’s worth noting that a lot of properties are from Saturday to Saturday.
If you’re looking for a little more luxury on your trip to Tobermory, Isle of Mull, then look no further than the Western Isles Hotel. Not only is the Western Isles Hotel a little bit of luxury with vasts views over the bay, but it is also one of the most dog friendly hotels you will find. Dogs are welcome everywhere – including in the dining room, and you might even be greeted by one of the hotel dogs whilst you’re there.
Fancy staying on the very front of Tobermory, in walking distance of everything? Then the Tobermory Youth Hostel could be the perfect base for your exploring. There’s a mix of private rooms and shared dorms – many which have sea views – and a well equipped kitchen too.

Walks from Tobermory, Isle of Mull
There are some beautiful walks based from Tobermory…

Costal walk to Aros Park
You can walk from Tobermory, past the harbour, and up and round to Aros Park.
Classed as a strenous walk, it can take 3 hours to walk to Aros Park. However, we often walk a smaller way and turn back, just to get the views. You can also drive up to Aros Park, and do the gentle walk around the loch which I really recommend. Parking is free, there’s plenty of picnic spots and even some playground things along the way.
In 2026, a new cafe is opening at the pier of Aros Park, which will be a great stopping point for your big walk from Tobermory to Aros Park!

Lighthouse walk
The lighthouse walk is one of my favourite walks on Tobermory and the Isle of Mull.
It’s a 4k walk which takes you through woodland, and then down to the coast. With stunning views over to Ardnamurchan, this walk won’t dissapoint. The end point of the walk is Rubha nan Gall lighthouse, where there are no cars for miles, and it is so quiet and peaceful.
Where to eat in Tobermory
The Isle of Mull is one of the best places to get seafood. There are so many places to find good food on the whole island, but in winter, Tobermory Isle of Mull has the best range of options.
If you’re looking for some of my favourite places to eat on the whole island, you can read this post. But for a comprhensive list of what’s available purely in Tobermory, here we go…

- The Galleon – superb restaurant with locally sourced fish and meat. You won’t be disappointed with your meal here. I’d argue this is the best restaurant on the island!
- Macgochan’s – a brilliant pub, open all year round, with delicious food. When we go in winter, it’s one of the only places open in an evening, and every meal I’ve had here is good. On a Sunday, they do an incredible Sunday dinner (one of the best I’ve had!). It’s open 7 days a week, all year round!
- Cafe Fish – locally sourced fish, a small but mighty restaurant you need to go and eat at
- Western Isles Hotel – the food is okay here, but the main attraction here is the spectacular view
- Mishnish and Mishdish – another fantastic seafood restaurant (and pub!)
- The Gallery – only open in the summer, The Gallery restaurant is one of my fave spots to go for breakfast, lunch and dinner! A special shoutout to the vegetarian haggis!
- Isle of Mull Ice Cream – oof, the ice cream and sorbet here is beautiful
- The Tobermory Hotel – with sea views, the Tobermory hotel is a great spot to go to for local food, done at an elevated level
- Pier Cafe – your classic cafe with reasonably priced, good hearty food!
- An Tobar Cafe – a cafe within the arts centre with many veggie and vegan options!
- Spice of Mull – if you’re looking for an indian restaurant, here you go!
- Tobermory Bakery – homemade baked goods, perfect for getting your picnic bits, and a great little cafe – especially for breakfast!
- The fish and chip van – the best fish and chip van you’ll ever go to (and on new years eve it turns into a disco van!)
- Tobermory handmade chocolate – with homemade chocolates and the perfect spot to get a hot chocolate and is open all year round.
- Hooked – a new fish and chip shop on the front, open all year round.
Hidden gems in Tobermory, Isle of Mull
There are plenty of hidden gems in Tobermory, Isle of Mull. New to the island in 2025 was the islands first mobile sauna, which you’ll find in Tobermory, Salen and Calgary.
Scotland is known for it’s honesty boxes, and as you drive out of Tobermory to Calgary Beach you’ll drive past the Island Bakery, which makes delicious biscuits. Outside is a little shed, with the factory bisucit shop honesty box and it’s brilliant. Filled top to bottom with bisucuits galore, pop your money in the box and on you go.
And whatever you do, don’t forget to take a visit to Tobermory Store, which is on the main street of Tobermory. Here you can find a tonne of local produce, along with an amazing deli with freshly made pies and pastys, which are made on-site. You can also get freshly made bacon and sausage sandwiches, and some delicious coffee that is roasted on the island.
