7 microadventures to have in February

It’s safe to say we’re in the depths of winter right now. It’s cold, it’s dark and we’re plagued with weather warnings left right and centre. The twinkle of Christmas is well and truly dimmed and the hope of Spring feels just out of our grasp. Basically, February can be a hard month. Thank goodness it’s the shortest one! But if you’re determined to make 2026 a good year, filled with lots of adventures big and small, then you’ve come to the right place.

I’m on a mission to have a Big Advenutre-ful Year by having a weekly microadventure, and I wanted to share with you some of the ways you can find adventure this month as well, no matter your budget, time, health, or ability. Because life is too short to not find adventures wherever we look!

So wrap up warm, put on your waterproofs, and lets head on an adventure.

1. Go Stargazing

I don’t think there’s anything more magical than looking up at the night sky and seeing the starts twinkling. I always think this is a really underrated adventure, and February is the perfect time to start stargazing as it still gets dark pretty early.

There are plenty of dark skies events on in February, especially in Yorkshire as it’s the Yorkshire Dales Dark Skies festival so why not go and explore the sky this month.

2. Take yourself on a Valentine’s self-date

Whether you’re in a relationship or not, treat yourself to a solo date day in February and do something just for you. Maybe it’s going for coffee, cake and a mooch about a local gallery. Maybe you’re taking yourself on a hike with a flask of coffee, a trip to the cinema…the opportunities are endless! The only must, make sure it’s something you really want to do.

3. Set yourself a photography challenge

How often do you say to yourself that you want to take more photos, but then never actually do. This microadventures will leave you with a camera filled with photos from your adventure. Pick a colour, choose your camera, and head out and photograph anything which fits your colour brief!

4. A (blustery) seaside escape

A blustery beach walk is magical no matter what time of year you head there. Whether you go for a weekend break or a day trip to your local costal area,  walk along the beach, collect seashells, and enjoy the bracing sea air.

5. Hop on the train

love a train journey so why not see where you can get to from your local station! This is such a fun microadvenutre, whatever time of year, and who knows where you’ll end up. You could hop off at a station you’ve never been to before, and see where there is to explore in that area. Don’t forget your rail card to make the trip more affordable!

6. Try a beginners’ bouldering session indoors

If you’re looking for something new to try, an indoor bouldering session could be for you. It’s great because it’s active, but it’s indoors so a perfect winter activity. Have a google and see where your local bouldering wall is, and book into a beginners session.

7. Sunrise (or sunset) coffee on a hill and notice how the days are slowly lengthening

This is a great adventure for when you’re needing some time outside, and a reminder that spring is on its way. The days are slowly getting longer, so make the most of sunrise still being slightly later, make a coffee and head to watch the start of the day!
