Solway Holiday Park, Silloth Review | the perfect base for your Lake District Adventure

The Cumbrian Coast is an often overlooked area of the county, but there is a real charm and nostalgia to the area. It’s only about 50 minutes from where I live, and we decided to have a weekend break to the coast, and stay at Solway Holiday Park.

Silloth is known for nostalgic charm and incredible sunsets, and it’s safe to say we weren’t disappointed whilst we were there! It’s the perfect place to escape to for a calm and relaxing weekend break.

Where is Solway Holiday Park

Solway Holiday Park is on the Cumbrian Coast, in the seaside town of Silloth. It’s about a 5-10 minute walk into the centre of Silloth, along the promenade, and it’s a beautiful walk in.

It’s also the perfect base for exploring the lake district more. You’re 30 minutes away from Bassenthwaite and 40 minutes from Keswick.

Where to stay at the Solway Holiday Park

Solway Holiday Park has different types of caravans which you can stay at, as well as an area for campervans and touring caravans.

We stayed in one of the Gold two-bed caravans, which overlooked one of the ponds, and it was so lovely. There was a fully equipped kitchen (including a full-sized fridge freezer!), a twin room and a double room, which is ensuite, and a spacious bathroom. There’s also a smart TV in the living room, so you can binge watch your fave Netflix and Disney shows!

It was a really comfortable base, and after spending the weekend here, I felt so relaxed and didn’t want to go home!

There is a whole range of caravans and chalets that you can stay at, including dog friendly caravans as well, so the whole family can come!

The best part, is it’s really reasonable to stay here. Our three days would have been around £300 for three people, which when you’re so close to the lakes, is an absolute steal! And out of season, you can stay for a week for less than £500!

You can also buy caravans on the site, starting from £14,500. So if you find you really like it hear, you can buy your own little slice of calm!

Activities and Amenities available at the Solway Holiday Park

It’s safe to say that Solway Holiday Park is super family-friendly, and there’s lots to do for everyone!

From the arcade, to the kids club, to the swimming pool, to pottery painting, zorbing, axe throwing – there is loads to do! Whilst there, I went pottery painting and it was so much fun to switch off for an hour or so, and be creative. We also went in the arcade and had a few games of air hockey, and was surprised at just how much there was to do in there. There’s also a bar and tv playing sports.

There’s an onsite restaurant which has a really wide range of options. It’s nice in here, and the food is tasty. It was a really busy Saturday night when we ate there, and the service was slow, but we enjoyed our meal nonetheless. I think if we were staying again (which we are planning to!), we might actually eat more in the caravan because the kitchen is so well equipped!

There are regular events held at Solway Holiday Park as well. When we were there, there was the Cove music and food festival, where there was a funfair, food and drink stalls, and a stage with loads of different musicians and it was a really fun atmosphere!

Things to do in Silloth

There’s a real sense of nostalgia in Silloth, and the town has a real charm to it.

One thing I would really recommend is Fish and Chips from the Silloth Cafe. We got some from here and ate them overlooking the sea, and they were really good!

We did a lot of walking along the costal walk here too, and it’s just nice to be out in the fresh air!

The perfect base for exploring The Lake District

The thing is, Silloth is a great base for exploring more of Cumbria and The Lake District.

You’re really close to the market town of Cockermouth, which has a great range of independent shops and cafes (a firm favourite is The Bookshop on the highstreet!), you can be at Bassenthwaite in 30 minute, and it’s a beautiful drive along the coast to get to all of these places!

Overall thoughts on the Solway Holiday Park

I didn’t really know what to expect when arriving at Solway Holiday Park, but I can firmly say that I loved staying here. It was simple, comfortable and cosy, there was plenty to do, and we’re actually planning another stay here!
