Review : Next at Savoy Signature, Funchal

If you’re looking for a relaxing and bougie hotel, and the perfect base for exploring Madeira, then look no further than Next at Savoy Signature. This hotel is a stone’s throw away from the Old Town of Funchal and is the perfect oasis to return to after some serious exploring.

One word I would use to describe this hotel is a vibe. The pool, bar and restaurant areas all have a very Wes Anderson feel about them, and everything feels slick, polished and well thought out.

Location-wise, it was a perfect base for me. Right by the port, it was about 10 minutes to the Old Town and 15 minutes to the cable cars. There were some incredible restaurants within walking distance as well. There is a slight incline up to the hotel, but luckily it’s near the bottom of the hill so it’s not too much of a trek!

The Rooms at Next at Savoy Signature

As soon as I walked into my sea view room, I was blown away by the room. It’s sleek, it’s modern, it’s a vibe.

With wood-panelled walling and atmospheric lighting, you walk into a large open space with three clearly zoned areas; getting ready station ft shower, sink and wardrobe, the huge bed, and the desk area.

Let’s start with the bed, which is huge and so comfortable. There are plenty of plugs (including USB) on both sides, as well as some gorgeous industrial bedside slights.

The bathroom set up is…interesting. The toilet area is in it’s own room, however, the shower is in the main bedroom area. The rainfall shower is big and the sink and sideboard go into the shower area too so there’s plenty of space to put your lotions and potions! I thought it was a really cool space, but just slightly strange coming out of the shower and straight into the bedroom!

The Breakfast Buffet Review

Breakfast at Next at Savoy Signature

I always think the breakfast buffet is one of the most important things about a hotel, and Next at Savoy Signature did not disappoint for me.

My go to breakfast each day included; a pancake with bacon, mushrooms and sauteed potatoes, croissant with cheese, pastel de nata, yoghurt and a banana. What can I say, I needed to fuel up before a full day of adventures!

There was a great choice of hot food, cold meats and cheeses, freshly cooked pastries and pastel de nata’s, cereals and fruit.

If you’re feeling fancy, you can even get some champagne to start your day!

Everything was really fresh, and it felt as though things changed slightly from day to day so it didn’t feel too samey or boring.

Amenities at Next at Savoy Signature

There are two pool areas at Next at Savoy Signature; the first accessible from floor one, and the second on the 11th floor.

Adults Only pool at Next at Savoy Signature

Let’s start with the pool on the 11th floor which is where you’ll also find the bar. It’s adults-only up here and was so peaceful when I was up here. On a night, you can also find the DJ here (Wed – Sun) and you can watch the sun set.

The main pool is where you’ll also find the restaurant, and it is gorgeous here. It’s a bit hard to find at first; just head to the first floor, and walk outside to a second lift which takes you to the pool and sea access.

It’s serious Wes Anderson vibes around this pool, and was so relaxing.

We had lunch at the restaurant here, where I had the club sandwich, and it was so good. The sandwich was packed and so flavoursome. The chips came seasoned, and had a bit of a kick to them as well, and were so delicious!

On the first floor you’ll also find the gym, which is open 24/7, and the spa area.
