Is this the best sunrise spot in The Lake District?
I don’t know about you, but I am a massive fan of sunrises. Living so close to The Lake District, I wanted to share with you my favourite (and accessible) spot to watch the sunrise over the Lake District.
So, after a few weeks of feeling in a funk last summer, I set my alarm for 5 am and headed to Ullswater with my mum for an early morning adventure.
Driving through the lakes, I was worried I’d missed my chance as it was getting light. But I made it in perfect time to watch the candy floss pink and pastel purple skies dance over the still lake.
The morning calls from the birds, the swans dipping their heads into the lake for their early breakfast and a complete stillness from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
The air was crisp, the coffee we’d brought with us was hot, and a sense of calm overcame me. It’s safe to say it was pure bliss, and totally worth the early alarm clock!

THE BEST PLACE TO WATCH THE SUNRISE IN THE LAKE DISTRICT
My top tip for watching the sunrise over Ullswater is to head to Pooley Bridge.
There’s a woodland walk at Dunmallard Hill which has the perfect spot which overlooks the lake. There you can see the jetty for the Ullswater Steamers and right down the lake.

EXPLORING POOLEY BRIDGE
Pooley Bridge is one of my favourite places, many a Sunday morning is spent there.
After watching the sunrise, we headed to the lake shoreline near the Parkfoot Camping site.
Here we watched the sunshine and it was beautiful!
WHERE TO EAT IN POOLEY BRIDGE
There are a few lovely places to eat in Pooley Bridge, all with beautiful views. 3 places include a view of the iconic bridge, which is currently being rebuilt after storm Desmond in 2015. It will be the first completely stainless steel bridge in the UK!
My favourite place for food, especially breakfast, is Granny Dowbekin’s. We’ve been coming here for as long as I can remember and I’ve never had a bad meal!
Whether it’s a hearty breakfast before a day walking, a scrumptious lunch after your walk or cake to keep you going through the day, this place has it all. Plus, it has great coffee, vegan and gluten free options.
Oh, and it’s VERY dog friendly!

After a morning of chasing the sunrise, I opted for a decaf latte and avocado on toast – yes I’m that basic!
But the Avocado on toast here is particularly good! It has a layer of spicy tomato chutney (homemade) which adds a zing to your day!
Two coffees, and breakfast down, we headed back home in need of a much-needed nap!
