A Lake District spa break at Beech Hill Hotel & Spa

With unspoilt views of Windermere, Beech Hill Hotel & Spa is the perfect example of a Lake District spa break done right. If you’re a foodie in need of relaxing, then this is the place for you.

Beech Bill Hotel & Spa is a luxury 4 star hotel to the east of Windermere, about a 10 minute drive from the center of Bowness on Windermere. It has uninterrupted views across the lake, towards the Western Fells. Even on a wet and windy day (which our break soley consisted of), the views are stunning.

The hotel has 55 rooms, all of which come with en suites, a tv, room service, tea and coffee making facilities, and toiletries. If you’re wanting to add some more luxury to your weekend, you can upgrade your room to a suite, a premier room, a select room or a family room, for that added space.

Check-in at the hotel is from 3pm, however it was particularly busy on the day we arrived, making it slightly slower than usual. This wasn’t an issue at all though, it gave us time to relax in the bar with breathtaking views of the lake and a drink.

Our room was one of the twin select rooms, which on entering you’re greeted with a huge window overlooking the lake.

The room was incredibly comfortable and spacious. There was plenty of space for bags and cases, and places to put your clothes. I had a glorious nights sleep – the bed was very comfortable. It’s also worth noting that the room, and the hotel, is well heated. You won’t be cold staying here, which is very welcome on a cold and wet day in The Lakes

The bathroom was simple – but having a spa bath is always a treat. You also has complementary Gilchrist & Soames toiletries.

Burlington’s Restaurant

The Beech Hill Hotel is perfect for any foodies. The award winning restaurant only uses fresh and local ingredients, and the menu is seasonal. You have the option of two, three and five courses and you will not be dissapointed.

For starters, I opted for mushroom and truffle risotto.

This was packed with flavour. The depth of flavour in this dish was astounding. It was creamy, peppery and oof, I could eat this all day.

My main meal was Scottish Salmon with a pea velouté, pan fried baby potatoes, soured cream.

The skin on the salmon was salty and crispy, and perfectly balanced with the sweetness of the pea velouté. I’ve eaten a lot of salmon in my time, and this is up there with one of the best salmon dishes I’ve had.

I’m a self confessed chocolate addict so for dessert opted for the Tobago Dark Chocolate Mousse. It was perfectly smooth, and not overly sweet, and balanced perfecly with coconut meringue and pineapple.

Breakfast at Beech Hill Hotel & Spa

Included in your stay is a continental breakfast, including toast, pastries, cheeses and meats, cereals and yoghurts.

However, there is also additional cooked breakfast options, including full english, waffles, eggs, and more.

Mum went for the full english which looked brilliant. I opted for waffles with bacon and maple syrup and wow, it was delicious. Two waffles, stacked with bacon inbetween, and I wish I could eat it again right now!

Relaxing spa overlooking Windermere

We had three hours where we could use the spa and it was gorgeous. Because you book in, it keeps it quiet and not too crowded, which I really appreciated.

You have uninterrupted views over Windermere, as you sit in the Jacuzzi and relax. Even on a cold March morning, it’s still absolutely glorious being sat outside.

As well as two outdoor Jacuzzi’s, there is also a pool, sauna and steam room.

You can also book one of the many spa treatments – from massages to manicures. Make sure to book ahead though, as they sell out!

Final thoughts

Beech Hill Hotel & Spa is the perfect spot for relaxing and eating good food.

Whilst on the outside it looks slightly shabby in places, that really doesn’t reflect the inside, or the service, or the offerings.

The spa was light and spacious, and as we had a slot on Monday morning was incredibly quiet too.

The rooms were spacious, comfortable and quiet too. What’s brilliant is non of the rooms are on the side of the road, as they all have views of the lake, so there’s no cars to be heard.

The real stand out is the food. Make sure to book a table at the restaurant and truly experience the culnary delight that is Burlignton’s restaurant.

There are often special offers to stay here out of season, so make sure to check that out!

Would I stay again? Absolutely. It’s the perfect place to wind down and relax!
