The Best Isle of Mull restaurants to visit

Let’s dive into the best Isle of Mull restaurants – from cafes that are perfect to lunch, to where to get the best seafood, to the best dinner places.

The Glass Barn, Isle of Mull Cheese, Tobermory

The Glass Barn is the home of Isle of Mull cheese and is a fantastic cafe about 5 minutes from Tobermory.

Fans of the BBC show, Interior Design Masters, may also know it as the home of winner and interior designer, Banjo Beal. It is a beautiful cafe with some incredible local produce on offer.

As well as the cafe, there is the farm shop selling local produce, including the cheese, meat and gin that’s made onsite at the farm. You can also go on daily farm tours, where you can see the animals, how the cheese and gin are made, and learn more about this incredible place (including a cheese and gin tasting at the end!)

The menu at the cafe is small, but with some delicious options and every single meal slaps. Two stand outs were the mac and cheese, which is so full of flavour, and the soup and cheese board combo. Again, the soup was delicious and the cheese board is a great option to try the Isle of Mull cheese!

Open Sunday – Thursday every week, this cafe is the perfect lunch spot and is dog-friendly. Oh, and make sure to keep an eye out Una the springer who is the cutest greeter of the cafe!

Croft3

Croft3 is one of the latest Isle of Mull restaurants, located near Ulva, and is a gorgeous calming space. The views from the cafe are incredible, and the window seats are the perfect place to sit and watch the wildlife.

The menu here is small, and ever-changing, depending on the fresh produce available. I had the haggis-filled focaccia and it was delicious and so filling. They also have fresh seafood, including oysters and langoustines, and on Sunday’s they do a full roast dinner.

Croft3 is a dog friendly cafe as well.

Glenforsa

Based near Fishnish, Glenforsa Cafe and Farmshop is one of the newest food places on the Isle of Mull, and it is incredible.

Using local produce, the menu has a great variation, and some delicious cakes as well (can definitely recommend the millionaire shortbread!). The coffee is strong here, and the Isle of Mull coffee is used and it makes a good iced coffee. We went here for breakfast, and I had the eggs benedict, and it was a blooming good eggs benny!

Because it was sunny, we sat in the outside area and as it’s next to the old airport, you can watch vintage planes fly and it’s brilliant and very unique!

It’s super dog-friendly at Glenforsa Cafe & Farm shop!

Cafe Fish, Tobermory

One of my favourite places to eat on the Isle of Mull is Cafe Fish, and it really is one of the best Isle of Mull restaurants to get fresh seafood. The menu here is huge with so many options.

It serves the freshest fish caught daily and there’s always a great selection of specials.

Some things I can really recommend are; the mussels, oak smoked salmon and the Café Fish Tom Yam. This is an aromatic hot and sour kaffir lime leaf and lemongrass seafood broth of salmon, haddock, queenies and mussels. It comes with a mix of wild, red and basmati rice and Thai prawn crackers.

The Galleon, Tobermory

The Galleon is one of the best Isle of Mull restaurants, and is the perfect place to come for a special meal. We’ve often celebrated New Year here, and the food is incredible. Not only does it taste phenomenal, it is also presented beautifully.

With fresh, local seafood, meat and vegetables, you will not be disappointed here. They also open for lunch, with a smaller menu, including a lobster mac and cheese which sounds delicious.

The Gallery, Tobermory

One of the newly opened restaurants on the Isle of Mull this year is The Gallery. This recently reopened as a fantastic Italian restaurant, and is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks (plus live music too!).

If you’re looking for a cracking breakfast roll, or eggs benny, then here is the place to come. But The Gallery comes really alive in the evenings. Antipasta platters to die for, incredible pizzas and genuinely the best carbonara I’ve eaten.

The Old Post Office, Lochbuie

Getting to The Old Post Office is an experience! It’s about 20 minutes down a very narrow one-track road, which suddenly opens up to this camping space, cafe and benches by the sea. It’s one of the most unique Isle of Mull restaurants due to it’s location.

Sadly on the day we went, they weren’t serving breakfast, which was disappointing with it being such a detour! However, I did have the cheese scone and it was delicious! Genuinely one of the best cheese scones I’ve ever had.

Calgary Arts Center, Calgary

Calgary Arts Centre is such a beautiful cafe, shop and art gallery. It’s in walking distance from the beach at Calgary Bay and is the perfect lunch spot after a walk on the beach.

There is always a great selection of soups and savoury treats here. As well as being a great food stop, it’s also got a really fun art walk through the woods. There’s a trail which takes you to the beach with lots of different natural art. You also go past the cutest air bnb which I really want to stay in!

Macgochan’s, Tobermory

This cosy pub right by the harbour which has a great selection of food for lunch and dinner which is local and tasty, and is one of my fave Isle of Mull restaurants to head to at all times of the year.

They use a lot of local produce, and I’ve never had a bad meal here (and in winter when we visit, we go most days!)

They’re also dog friendly and they always make a fuss of our four-legged friends. Finn loved his first visit here and was given his own water bowl whilst he sat too.

Not only does the food taste great, it also has a really warm and friendly environment and good WIFI too!

The Creel Seafood Bar

If you’re heading to Iona, make sure to leave some time to have food at The Creel Seafood Bar, at Fionnphort.

This unassuming wooden hut has some of the freshest and most delicious seafood and is a must visit. I had the battered langoustines (which were incredible) and some of the very best chips I’ve had!

Glengorm Coffee Shop

You’ll find Glengorm Coffee Shop at Glengorm Castle, about a 15-minute drive from Tobermory.

It’s a really cute little tea room serving homemade food and cakes all from local produce. They also run the bakery in Tobermory which is another fab place to visit.

There are lots of walks, for all abilities, around Glengorm and the coffee shop is the perfect place to come back to and replenish with a great selection of food!

One thing you need to try if you visit is the fishcakes! The risotto salmon fishcakes are out of this world. Genuinely one of the best things I’ve ever eaten!

Mishnish + Mishdish

Mussles from the Mishnish, Isle of Mull

The Mishnish is the bright yellow pub on the front at Tobermory.

It’s a really traditional Scottish pub with the most amazing menu on one side, and then on the other, you can find the Mishdish, which is the restaurant.

In the restaurant side, you will find a great range of meals, including a delicious fish pie.

The pub side has a great range of classic pub dishes, as well as seafood options including these mussels. The pub side is also dog friendly!

Tobermory Fish & Chip Van

Battered haggis & chips and an iron bru from Tobermory fish and chip van on the Isle of Mull

Yep, you read that right. The chip van at Tobermory is on the list of places you need to eat. That’s because it is one of the best chip vans and has even won awards!

It really does have great food from haggis to fish to calamari and everything in between. It’s right next to the sea and only a stone’s throw away from the ice cream shop so you know where to go for dessert!

2 Isle of Mull Restaurants that aren’t technically on the island…

Whilst these restaurants aren’t technically on the Isle of Mull, they are both only a very short boat journey from the island, so that kinda counts right?

The Boathouse, Isle of Ulva

The Isle of Ulva is a tiny island which is a 5 minute boat ride from Mull. It’s such a unique little island, and as well as the incredible walks they have there, there is also one of the best cafes and places to eat – The Boathouse.

Think fresh fish and salads, delicious coffee and the most scrumptious cakes you can imagine, all with the most beautiful scenery to just sit and enjoy.

I opted for Ulva prawns with a grain and roasted veg salad, and it was incredible. The langoustines are caught just off the island that day and they were HUGE and possibly the best I’d ever tasted. If you’re looking to sample local, fresh fish this is the place to come.

A special mention also has to go to the

The Rookery Cafe, Iona

The Rookery is a gorgeous little cafe on Iona, with a brilliant outside garden.

It’s a simple menu, but delicious. I had roasted veg soup with a sandwich of cheese, chutney and roasted carrot, and it was so lovely and freshly made.

It’s dog-friendly here as well!
