Your Guide to Winter at Sizergh 2024

Something that is truly magical about this time of year is the incredible light installations that pop up around the country. Sizergh Castle, near Kendal, is one of the many National Trust sites in The Lake District, and this winter has a brilliant daily event, Winter at Sizergh.

Winter at Sizergh is a family-friendly festive event, with a light and sound walk, and a brilliant interactive section within part of the castle, where you’re taken by the ghosts of Christmas past, to see the history of Christmas at Sizergh.

How much is Winter at Sizergh?

For National Trust members, it’s £3.00.

For non-members, its;

Child (non-member)£7.00
Adult (non-member)£11.00
1 adult, 2 children (non-members)£21.00
2 adults, 2 children (non-members)£32.00
2 adults, 3 children (non-members)£35.00

What to expect at Winter at Sizergh?

You start with a light trail through part of the garden, and it is magical. The soundscape that is alongside the installation really enhances the magical feeling of the trail.

My favourite point was the lilypads on the pond, it was so beautiful. Walking through the woodlands, make sure to keep an eye out for some special animals along the way as well.

The light trail brings you to one of the entrances to the castle, where you enter the tales of Christmas past. This is a fully immersive experience and is really cleverly done. The attention to detail is incredible, you can read the newspapers, hear brilliant soundscapes, and be transported through time to three of the Christmas’s past.

The shop and cafe stay open late as well, and there are some festive treats in the cafe, including a special collaboration with Pieminister, mulled wine and spiced apple juice, mint hot chocolates and special scones!

For children, the barn also has a whole host of Christmas crafts that you can do as well!

Final thoughts…

If you’re looking for a magical Christmas experience to have with all of the family, this is a great one to choose.

If you’re a national trust member, I would say that it is fantastic value for money. The lights and house took around an hour to do in total, but you could spend as long as you want there.

Winter at Sizergh runs every day, 12-8pm, from 22 November – 24 December and you can book tickets here
